General requirement for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories and this Malaysian Standard is identical with ISO/IEC 17025 published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Services & Laboratory Analysis

Environmental Monitoring Services

OELAB leverages on the growing interest within the industry to to comply with the Department of Environment Malaysia (DOE) regulations as well as ISO 14001, which requires provision of environmental monitoring services. Our vast experience in environmental monitoring is demonstrated from the range of high impact clients and projects that we have delivered. Reliability and data integrity have always been our primary aim in providing timely professional services, well supported by SAMM accredited lab. Our range of environmental monitoring services include,
In-Situ sampling and Testing In-Situ sampling and Testing

Flow rate, Temperature, Dissolved Oxygen, Salinity, Turbidity, Conductivity
Water Sampling and Analysis Water Sampling and Analysis

OELAB offer a wide range of water testing to assist you in meeting the various industry and regulatory requirements and standards with the increasing focus on environmental and health issues. The scope of water sampling and testing, including industrial effluent, groundwater, wastewater, and drinking water for all physical, chemical, and microbiological testing to ensure environment regulatory compliance.
Our service including:
  • Industrial Effluents Monitoring
based on Environmental Quality Act (Industrial Effluents) Regulation 2009 by in-situ analysis means the industrial effluent analysis conducted from its location or ex-situ analysis means the industrial effluent analysis conducted in laboratory conditions.
  • Industrial Effluent Characteristic Study (IECS)
is the study of industrial effluent which normally would take 24/8 hours over a period of three days.
  • Sewage Water Monitoring
based on Environmental Quality Act (Sewage) Regulations 2009.
  • Drinking Water Monitoring
based on Malaysia Food Act 1983-Food, Regulation 2012 25th Schedule Standard for Packaged Drinking Water and Vended Water [Mesin Jual Air (MJA)-2021].
  • Marine and River Water Monitoring
for physical, chemical as well as microbiological aspect based on National Water Quality Standards for Malaysia.
Ambient Air and Chimney Air Emission Ambient Air and Chimney Air Emission

Monitoring of air and flue gas is essential to maintain the quality of living. Environmental issues are a leading concern in public opinion all over the world and this has resulted in increasingly strict regulations in air emission measurement and monitoring. Air pollution can cause a serious effect on human health and it would lead to negative impacts on the environment. It will post a direct effect of pollutants on vegetation, and indirectly through effects on the acid and nutrient status of soils and waters.
It is important that all the manufacturers or companies have accuracy, reliability and available air emission information in order to improve engineering equipment performance and subsequently reduce environmental impact. The New Ambient Air Quality Standard of 2020 adopts 6 air pollutants criteria which are particulate matter with the size of less than 10 micron (PM10), sulfur dioxide (SO2), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and ground level ozone (O3) as well as 1 additional parameter which is particulate matter with the size of less than 2.5 micron (PM2.5).
The OELAB perform Chimney monitoring with DOE recognized ISO-Kinetic method (MS 1596:2003 & USEPA) including but not limited to the following parameters:
  • Dust particulates
  • Heavy metals (including mercury)
  • NOx, N2O, CO, CO2, O2, SO2
  • NMVOC (Volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds)
  • Acids gases (HCL, HF, NH3).
Ambient Noise and Vibration Ambient Noise and Vibration

Noise is commonly defined as unwanted sound, independent of loudness that can produce a desired physiological or psychological effect in an individual, and that may interfere with the social ends of an individual or group. Boundary and environmental noise will be an issue, especially in industrial areas or high population areas, and the source of noise and their adverse effects on our well-being can be varied.
Vibration and sound are generated during rock blasting, construction, passing train and aircraft landing and taking off, etc. Vibration and sound generated from the source are propagated spherically like an elastic wave in the ground and the amplitude diminishes inversely as the distance advance from the initial spot of event. Certain amplitude of vibration and sound experienced by human can be very uncomfortable and damaging to properties.
OELAB is capable of carrying out vibration and sound measurement at carefully selected sites using seismography during events that generate vibration and sound for the following purpose:
  • Quantitative measurement that provides an indication of what vibration and sound levels can be expected and therefore the appropriate abatement to be taken to rectify the situation
  • Quantitative measurement that provides the industries or local authority a better understanding of the reasonable vibration and sound expected, so that any future contractual agreement or regulations to be considered may be realistic
Occupational Noise Exposure Monitoring Occupational Noise Exposure Monitoring

The Factories And Machinery (Noise Exposure) Regulations, 1989 requires the employer to carry out assessment of risk to the health of employees due to noise exposure in the work place. This includes the assessment of the provision of control measures in order to reduce noise levels to an acceptable action level established by the regulations. Failing to address this issue may result in prosecution and/or civil claims against the company.
Noise at work may be a complex issue to address. An assessment of personal exposure provides further complications due to an employee’s varied work pattern. EST offers services of professionally qualified and competent personnel who are registered with DOSH in achieving compliance with the above regulations. Our services cover the following features:
  • Noise mapping through measurements at static location
  • Personal dosimetry readings using state-of-the-art data logging equipment
  • Allowing the employer to target resources in areas where employees are exposed to highest noise levels
  • Analysis of noise level at various frequencies to provide information on types of control measure to install
Isokinetic stack monitoring Isokinetic stack monitoring

Since the introduction of the Environmental Quality (Clean Air) Regulations, 1978, operators of industrial facilities are required to submit emission data to the Department of Environment and relevant local authorities as proof of compliance with the statutory limits under the regulations concerned. EST provides competitively priced stack emission monitoring services using internationally recognized protocols that are conducted by qualified and trained staff.
We have extensive experience in monitoring stack flue gases. Our capability includes testing the following parameters:
  1. Concentration and mass emission of particulate using isokinetic sampling techniques
  2. Gas concentration “NOx, SOx, CO, VOC’s (total and specific), O2, H2S, dioxins/furans
  3. Acidic gases “HCI, H2SO4, HF, HNO3, H3PO4, HCN”
  4. Heavy metals
  5. Hydrocarbon and volatile organic compounds e.g. benzene, toluene, xylene, ethyl-benzenes, etc.Other testing by request
